Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty

Lower eye bags or puffy under eyes are common concerns to many people as it makes one look old and tired. Many expensive cream or products has been used with limited success. At present, get rid of eyebags surgically is still the main treatment. Lower eyelid bags actually is a complex issue. It may include herniation of fat through a weakened septum, skin laxity and mid face descent. It is important to assess and address all these factors in order to achieve a satisfactory outcome. By just removing fat itself often left a person with sunken look or more prominent dark circles.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is performed to remove the dark circle.   It can be in the form of transonjunctival blepharoplasty in which incision is  being placed inside the conjunciva and hence no scar is seen outside.  Or it can be in the form of transcutaneous in which incision is made very close to the lower eyelashes.    The benefit of the transcutaneous approach is one can combine additional procedure such as remove excess skin in addition to performing mini cheek lift.  Mini cheek lift is quite an useful adjunct in treating mid face descent.  Mid face refers to area below the lower eyelid and around the cheek bone area and above lips. The mid face lift or mini cheek lift will allow a blended or smooth contour between 

Pre Op:  Lower eyelid bags with significant descent of mid cheek.  There is a deep nasojugal fold.  

Post op:  reduced eye bags appearance and smooth lower eyelid-cheek junction.  Patient looks much more refreshed.

post op:  Definitely look younger and more refreshed post bilateral lower eyelid blepharoplasty, fat repositioning /lateral canthoplasty/orbicularis suspension flap
